Adventure Review
We just got back from a 4 night camping trip to Lieber State Park. We have actually camped there quite a bit over the last three years. We like camping there because its not too far from home (Brownsburg) less than an hour and they have a pool and beach. With our kids getting older, its getting harder and harder to find time to go on trips so on occasion we are able to drive back home for their activities and then head back out to the campground. The electric campsites are very shaded and many are nice sized. The primitive area does not have much shade. Each site has 2 picnic tables, electric on your site (unless primitive) a fire pit, and many have a paved surface for your camper to sit on. We have never been to Lieber that we have not been able to see deer, which is something we like to drive around in the evening and look for. One of the workers alerted us to new triplets and we were able to find them! This weekend the water was high, so the beach was closed but the pool was open. The pool is always clean, the life guards are very attentive, and the pool has a water slide. On summer weekends they usually have some planned activites. I have seen scavenger hunts for the kids, and Karoke in the evening. There is a nature center, but we were really not impressed with it. There are a few live animals like turtles and frogs but we only spent about 10 minutes there and my kids were ready to go. The campground bathrooms and shower house, used to be really clean, but has gone down hill over the last couple years, maybe because of the economy and budget cuts. Its not awful, but certainly not as clean as it used to be. One tip on that, is that we sometimes drive over to the primitive bathhouse because it seems to be better. On your way to the park, there are many signs of people who sell firewood and that is your best buy on wood. If you do want to buy at the park, I recommend purchasing from the park directly after the campstore closes. The wood you buy from the store comes in bundles that are very small. DNR can sell you wood after store hours, and you get more wood and bigger pieces.

Thanks for the great review. We are thinking about going camping here this summer and are looking at all the camp sites. Do you have any you would recommend? There are 4 loop which one did you camp at? I was having a hard time choosing because they all say high traffic area. Thanks, Sarah

We have camped there alot. Other than the sites near the entrance I’ve never thought it was a high traffic campground. We like the area near the modern restrooms near sites 41,40 and in the loop near 59. I don’t like 39 at all very small and floods bad when it rains. Also we don’t like the ones right by that bathroom I think they are in the 60’s. The other loop behind that one has numbers like 11 we don’t like because it’s only close to pit toilets but other than that they are very nice. Please feel free to ask any other questions

Yes! Many tent campers stay in electric though because it’s shaded.
