Adventure Review
Our family stayed at Lightner Creek Campground in Durango, Co. in July of 2009. We took all 6 of the kids, and rented a 39 foot RV from a friend a work. The RV was a Winnebago Journey. We looked at many options for getting there. Fly, train, rent a SUV and trailer, but in the end we decided to try the RV adventure.
The trip was going to be 27+ hours total one way and the route through Colorado was fantastic. When we arrived at Lightner Creek Campgound we were pleasantly surprised. We would go back to this campground in a heartbeat. The only disappointment with our stay was a there was a fire ban in effect and we were not allowed to have campfires. Despite not having campfires we loved so many things about this campground:
- It is off the main highway a couple of miles and nestled in between some small mountains. This gave the park a nice quiet location which set it apart from so many we saw on our way to Durango.
- We had a creekside spot and it was great for the kids to play in while we made meals.
- The showers were clean and the staff was in there frequently to keep it clean.
- The staff was really helpful in getting us parked into our spot. All the necessary hookups were easily accessed and functional.
- Playground and pool for the kids
- Ice cream social night was great
- Rates were comparable
- Lots of trees for good shade from the summer heat.
- Close to Durango. Only a 5 minute drive.
