Mid-September of 2011 was a beautiful time of year to be in southern Colorado.  We spent lots of time researching where we wanted to hunt in southern Colorado.  Once we located an area that we wanted to hunt, we then  began our search for a place for 6 hunters to stay.  One of the guys in our party found Sportsman’s Campground while looking at topographical maps of our hunting area.  He found their website online and told me that this campground might be the place for us.   I looked at their website, called the office and asked a bunch of questions.  Having all my questions answered by John and his staff,  I decided to book a  week at Sportsman’s Campground.  I based this decision on the location, price, accommodations, and great customer service.   I was sure we found a great place to stay for our week of archery elk hunting.  We stayed in the Aspen cabin which sleeps 6.  It looked like new and was clean.  All 6 of us hunters did fit into the cabin, but the next time we go with 6 hunters or more we will book 2 cabins.  We just needed more elbow room and it would have been real comfortable in the Aspen with 3-4 hunters.  That was our mistake.  We actually have our eyes on a bigger cabin for our next hunt, but that depends on how many are in our group.  I have a long list of reasons why I would recommend Sportsman’s Campground to those looking for a nice campground in the Pagosa Springs area of Colorado.  Below is my list of why I will stay at Sportsman’s Campground again.

• Location is in the heart of the San Juan National Forest (scenic beauty everywhere)
• Only 30 minutes from Pagosa Springs, Colorado
• Easy to find
• Friendly, knowledgeable staff and owner
• Clean restrooms
• Kitchen & pool table in the Lodge
• Cabins are maintained well and clean
• Campground is shaded nicely with mature trees
• Great camp store
• Very reasonable prices for lodging
