Adventure Review
My first trip on a canoe trip was quite an experience. We arrived in Ely, Minn. late in the afternoon and stayed at a house located next to Canoe Country Outfitters. Early the next morning we headed to our BWCA entry point and set out for a week of paddling and portaging from lake to lake. Most portages had to be done in two trips, one with the canoe and the other with the backpack.
The calls of the loons, an ocassional howling of wolves, and watching moose along the shore line were amazing. Black bears, deer and bald eagles were also part of the beautiful landscape. The fishing was great catching large northern pike and a few small mouth bass.
No roads, cabins or motorboats were allowed in the area we visited and it was truly a very peaceful time enjoying the vast wilderness lake region of over 2 million acres.
Entry permits are required to gain acces to this wilderness area and anyone interested in a trip of a life time needs to apply early to reserve your spot.
