Adventure Review

Last weekend we decided to go to Eagle Creek for some kayaking and to check out the park. By the time we got there we were hungry so we chose a picnic table down by the swimming beach and had an early lunch. While driving through the park we found the roads to be very bumpy. I guess they are in need of repair.

After lunch we went to the water sports area and rented two kayaks. They were $10 per hour which we chose because we figured we’d be tired from paddling the whole time. The kayaks were pretty easy to manage though I think the one Dj got was older and kept turning to one side. The benefit of Eagle Creek is that there are no power boats on the water or strong currents so you pretty much just glide through the water at your own pace. It was peaceful and we could see fish jumping at times.

I paddled over to the swimming area to check it out in hopes of bringing our kids back. I have to say I was disappointed. They advertise a beach but the beach was nowhere to be found. The grass came right up to the cement wall/water’s edge. To get in the lake you could walk down a ramp or down the cement steps. There was an area with inflatables such as a slide and water trampoline which looked fun but took up most of the swimming area so there was very little space for people to swim. I think it’s only 2 or 3 bucks to get in but you have to pay extra for the inflatables and also take a swim test to be able to use them. We decided it would not be worth it to bring the kids back.

As we drove out of the park we saw lots of shelters and playgrounds which was great. Looks like a nice place for a family gathering.

Overall we found Eagle Creek to be average. It is an Indy Park rather than State Park so it looked a bit run down. It has a more urban feel than the state parks. I think next time we’ll drive a little further to one of the many state parks in Indiana.
