Adventure Review
We took some time on a vacation to Charlotte to visit the National Whitewater Training Facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. I was blown away by what they had available for people to do. You could literally spend the entire day here and not run out of things to do. The fees vary depending on what activities you want to do. They have all day passes, or you can choose to do one or two things and pay accordingly. They have Rock Climbing, Zip Lines, Adventure Courses,Mega jump, Stand up Paddle boarding, Canyon Crossing, Eco Trekking, Mountain Biking, Whitewater Rafting, Flatwater and Whitewater Kayaking.
The day we were there it was unseasonably cold and we weren’t prepared for a cold water ride, so the kids just chose to do the Adventure course. It only cost us $15.00 per person, which included all the helmets and safety gear. The staff was awesome with the kids and adults alike. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. They were very clear on their instructions and made them easy for my 13 and 10 year old to understand.
The grounds are absolutely beautiful. They have an area where they host several bands in the summer with a nice restaurant that overlooks the grounds and rapids river.
My suggestion would be to call in advance or check their website to see what is open that day. ( http://usnwc.org/). We went April 1 and they were still on limited staffing so the same people were running the obstacle course and the free fall so they weren’t open at the same time. We weren’t able to do the free fall because we arrived to late.
I was really impressed with the entire facility. It does cost $5.00 to park. There are tons of road signs marking where to go off of highway 85 in Charlotte. Again, their website is very helpful and informational. They have all the directions, fees, events, etc at: http://usnwc.org/
