Adventure Review
We took a quick weekend down to Brown County, Indiana for a nice get away! It’s only about an hour south of Indianapolis. There are some gorgeous views and would be worth seeing in the fall. There’s a firetower you can go up and see the views as well. The steps are steep, but very easy to climb.
The campground is very nice. The campstore and Nature Center are all in the same area as the campground. The roads are very well maintained and would make for some excellent biking. We visited the Nature Center and it has lots of informative demonstrations, especially for kids. They even have a bird watching room complete with books and information. Lots of different birds and squirrels were noted. Abe Martin Lodge is the main lodge for the park and it was absolutely gorgeous! They have a really nice indoor waterpark as well that would be great for kids. There are cabins to rent that range from small and quaint to very large for a couple of families.
There are tons of places that have picnic tables for eating and just hanging out. Some of them have great views and some are wooded. There were several playgrounds scattered about the park as well. There is even a cabin you can rent that looks like it was built in the 1800s!! It’s by the firetower and someone actually had a birthday party on the day we were there!! There are several well marked trails to hike as well. The map they give you at the entrance has them well marked throughout the park. There are also specifically designated horse trails and mountain bike trails as well. Here’s a link to another review from our site on the horse trails: http://www.outdoorexperiencereview.com/off-road/horseback-riding-at-brown-county-state-park/
The North entrance into the park drives through a covered bridge with a 9 foot clearance, so if you have an RV you will have to come in on the West entrance.
You can also walk around the town of Nashville. There are some great little shops and the food is amazing! Our kids even enjoyed walking around town! There are some great hotels or cabins available to rent.
