Adventure Review
We hiked the 2.2 miles to Oppossum falls on the Chatooga River in South Carolina….let me just say it was absolutely breathtaking. We had 6 kids ranging in age from 6 -13 and four adults. The trail is very well marked and maintained. It’s mostly down the whole way in and was very easy. Shortly into the hike, you start to hearing small falls and the closer you get to the big falls, the louder it gets!! There are some rugged areas that required help getting over the water and rocks. Once you get to the falls, you can actually get under them and play in an area near the bottom. I can’t explain how beautiful it is, with the cool mist and the roaring noise. There are also some beach areas nearby to play in the river.
The hike out was hard. It’s up hill most of the way. I’m in average shape, and had a difficult time. Our friends were in better shape and did fine. It’s just a really long way up the mountain. All the kids were wore out by the time we were done!!
It is very beautiful and definitely worth the hike. I could have spent all day there exploring the eddy’s and under the falls.
