Adventure Review

Every year I take a trip to Gould, Colorado for Elk hunting.  We don’t use a guide.  We stay at the KOA Kampground right at the entrance to the Colorado State Forrest.  This will be my 20th year to go.  We see sign Elk every year, but have not been very successful at actually getting one.  We have come home with 4 Elk in those 20 years.  We go mostly for the “guy” time and just to get away into the beautiful Colorado wilderness.  We always see tons of Mule Deer, squirrels, and moose.  We have seen lots of tracks for Mountain Lions.  I have also come a cross a few bears!!

The town of Walden,Colorado has some great restaurants and actually a beautiful hotel if you want to stay there. The campground where we stay has a grill at every campsite or cabin, depending on where you want to stay.  Many days are spent hiking in the mountains looking for Elk, following tracks.  We always take a few days and go four-wheeling or hike up to Ruby Jewel Lake.  It’s always a beautiful hike, and lots of wildlife are visualized.  It’s not a guarantee every year that we will see anything, let alone get anything, but it’s very rewarding just to experience this time away with family and friends.
