Adventure Review
We visited Breckenridge, Colorado in December. One of the fun activities offered was a sleigh ride. There were a couple of companies but we chose www.BreckSleighRides.com for our evening Hot Chocolate Sleigh Ride. To start out we got lost finding the place due to the darkness and a direction mix-up but called the company and they graciously waited for us. We held up two sleighs with about 20 people on each but they were very accomodating. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff and two huge red wooden sleighs with beautiful jet black Percheron horses waiting for our ride through the open meadow. It was freezing so we had dressed warmly in our ski gear. Thankfully they also provided dozens of blankets to cover up with during the ride. We rode through the open meadows of the Ten Mile Mountain Range. Though we couldn’t see much b/c of the darkness it was serene and peaceful hearing the sleigh bells and seeing the stars as we huddled cozily under the blankets.
We were amazed by the strength of the horses and enjoyed listening to our driver talk about them as we rode along. I learned a lot about the horses and couldn’t believe that the horses would stay outside all night after having pulled us. Apparently they would be too hot indoors so it is better for them to be outside. Our driver was funny and friendly and told stories too. By the end of the ride I was feeling very cold despite the ski gear and blankets but took some time to pet the sweet horses and take pictures before heading inside.
Inside the lodge type building we were given our choice of a hot chocolate bar with toppings or liquers mixed in. It was a great way to warm up and top off the evening with a sweet treat. It was a fun and romantic experience though I’m sure it would be a great family experience as well. The other sleigh rides we could have chosen were an exclusive ride with 4 people or a dinner ride where you end with dinner instead of hot chocolate. The price of our ride was $59.50 each. Kids 4-12 are $49.50 and 3 and under are free.
